Best place to get your Truffle on
Osteria Barberini – Rome, Italy
One thing you must try when in Rome is the aromatic and flavorsome truffle! Truffles are a fancy type of mushroom with such a compelling aroma. But with just a couple of shavings, the fragrant truffle can go a long way. Where can you find this rare delicacy? Luckily Osteria Barberini is the place to go that specializes in black and white truffle, a true truffle heaven in Rome. They aren’t stingy with truffles, any truffle dish comes covered in a fistful of truffle shavings and is excellently flavored
We ordered three delicious appetizers: buffalo mozzarella, eggplant parmesan, and bruschetta with truffle!
The buffalo mozzarella was creamy and freshly served with fresh tomatoes and arugula. You need to eat it with a hint of salt and pepper and olive oil. The eggplant parmesan was heavenly, it tasted just like lasagna but without the pasta and meat! They cooked the eggplant so tender where it all melts together in your mouth. The truffle bruschetta kickstarted our taste bud for these fresh truffles. The crispy bread had a delicious spread on top sprinkled with mozzarella cheese and freshly shaven truffle. Such delicious appetizers!
Now the main course: fettuccine with porcini mushrooms and black truffle. The thick noodles were perfectly cooked al dente with a nice creamy sauce with mushrooms toppled with freshly shaven black truffle. The black truffle has an earthy flavor with a pungent aroma that blends in well with the sauce.
Egg noodle with white truffle. The white truffle is a more rare truffle with a lovely depth of flavor. The egg noodle pasta had a more subtle sauce with homemade noodles made al dente. The main highlight of this was to truly taste the white truffle that has a more intense musky aroma. More flavors are released when it is freshly shaven and uncooked into the pasta. Truly a delicious and classic dish!
We were stuffed but always have room for dessert! Crostata di ricotta e visciole – cake ricotta cheese & cherry was served warm with a delicious crust and cherry sauce toppled on top.
Crosta della nonna – cake with cream and pine nuts. This was a truly unique dessert as the pine nuts provided a nice crunchy texture inside. We ended the meal with strong homemade limoncello shots. Cheers!
