Claude Monet’s House & Garden Day Trip
Need a break from the city life in Paris? A visit to Monet’s House and Garden is like walking into a painter’s mind. It is an easy day trip with an hour train or bus ride away outside of Paris to a little town called Giverny. You will see where Monet’s true inspiration came from for all his Impressionist paintings, the lovely gardens are bursting with beautiful blooms and color. It was transparent where Monet got his inspiration from and why he chose such a serene spot to work and live. I took a half day tour with Paris City Vision which took us to Giverny by bus, providing a wonderful mini getaway. If you are a fan of Monet or a fan of lovely gardens, Giverny is a must-see.
The gardeners dust the lily pads once a week to maintain its appearance, creating an effortless and impressionist feel.
The whole place is a gorgeous fragrant sea of so many different type of flowers.
I love Monet’s use of pink and green colors. All the benches and fences are green throughout the garden. His little cottage contained special pieces of art hung around the house. Tip: No photography allowed inside.
I really enjoyed our little Giverny tour as it was very convenient and stress-free for our short time in Paris! It generally runs April 1- Oct 31 for €79). Have a little bit more time? There are plenty of fun bike tours so you can explore more of the little town in Giverny. You can also take the train – take the metro to Rouen and validate your ticket. Then take the bus outside when you get off the train (bus fare €2 each way).

Overall, the tour was a quick visit, and a wonderful excuse to flee Paris for a few hours. If you’re a fan of Monet, Giverny is a must-see. If you’re not a huge art fan, it’s still a nice place for a peaceful and zen moment to soak in the beauty. However, if you’re only in Paris for a few days, stick to seeing what the beautiful city has to offer before exploring trips outside the city.
