Best Seafood in Santorini: Dimitris Ammoudi Tavern
Seafood is a must when you are visiting Santorini with its prime location next to the ocean. After dining at the restaurants up on the hills of Oia, I can say Dimitris Ammoudi Taverana is above them all despite its location literally on the ocean shore. But being right night to the ocean offers a view and experience you couldn’t get being so high up on the island and I liked it. Being able to be so close to the ocean is serene and tranquil and the experience is only enhanced by the incredible and authentic seafood based cuisine that Joy offers. Find out where to get the best seafood in Santorini!
There is no other way to put it but that Joy (owner of the restaurant) is an absolute joy to be around. We managed to mix up the date of our reservation and despite her restaurant being filled with patrons, Joy still let us have a table for lunch. That was extremely generous of her especially considering how very popular her restaurant is with a never-ending stream of people flowing to her restaurant.
Everything on the menu is fresh and cooked at peak form. You can see them grilling the octopus as well as other seafood straight from a grill behind the restaurant and then it makes its way to your plate. It really does not get any better, more authentic, or fresher than that!
We started with a tomato fritter that was hands down the best we’ve ever had. No other restaurant in Oia could come close to the perfectly executed crisp of the batter and the sweet and fresh tomatoes used. It makes you appreciate the deliciousness of the Greek tomatoes which is their specialty. Plus paired with the smooth and creamy tzatziki sauce it makes for an absolutely heavenly dish. I would order those fritters again and again.
Enjoying a traditional Greek salad with fresh cucumber, tomatoes, green peppers, olives, and feta cheese!
Fresh mussels with a clear and tasty broth. The mussels were just freshly caught too!
The grilled octopus has a delicious charred and smoky taste to it. Very fresh and tender drizzled with a little olive oil.
Large prawns in a tomato and red pepper broth. Very hearty and tasty.
Grilled sea bream, the fish is very fresh and tender with no sauce required except a hint of lime.
I truly enjoyed the entire ambiance of being near the ocean and having the friendly cats of the island making for nice lunch guests.
View of Amoudi Bay
You have to descend a set of stairs to get down to Amoudi Bay, but it comes with such a breathtaking view.
Dimitris Ammoudi Taverna
Dining at Dimitris Ammoudi Taverna was easily the best seafood in Santorini we had during our short stay in Oia. I want to thank Joy for an amazing time and for being so accommodating even during the busy lunch hour. Please do yourself a favor and make a reservation here, you won’t regret it! We will definitely be back and I can’t wait to try the lobster with linguine next time!
