Explore Positano, Ravello, Amalfi Coast in One Day
Vibrant, inviting, lemon loving are just some of the adjectives I’d use to describe the unforgettable towns in the South of Italy. Visiting the Amalfi Coast has always been one of my dreams after seeing so many picturesque postcards. Seeing it up close, it’s no wonder so many people send postcards back home. One visit and you too will want to share a piece of the Amalfi Coast’s magic with your friends and family. It is truly breathtaking viewing vibrant villages clinging onto the edges of steep cliffs overlooking the deep blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea. What a truly beautiful experience it is to hop from one town to another while going on one of the most scenic drives along the Southern Italian coastline. Each town greets you with with jaw-dropping scenic views. The best part is that these cities are beautiful from outside and from within. What you’ll find venturing through is that each city is filled with their famed abnormally large and juicy lemons, colorful buildings toppled on top of another, and the beautiful azure blue sea with coves as far as the eye can see. Join me in my adventures as my gracious tour guide from Sorrento Coast Limo took us to each town including Positano, Ravello, and Amalfi. On the way we passed by different fishing villages, lush lemon tree groves, traditional ceramics shops, and vineyards, all with so much history behind them. The towns are generally touristy and congested, but you truly can’t beat the scenic drive and the spectacular views along the stretch of the Mediterranean coastline.
We started our day from Sorrento and made our way towards Positano and were constantly greeted with amazing views of the sea.
Figuring out where to go and what to see can be a little overwhelming in the Amalfi Coast, especially if you are limited on time. I highly recommend getting a personal driver and tour guide to take you to each area as it is very convenient and saves a lot of time. We were picked up in a spacious Mercedes Benz van with comfortable seats, air conditioning, and clear window views. Rosario (our guide) is very knowledgeable about the entire region and a very safe and skilled driver especially in the windy roads along the Amalfi Coast. Note: be sure to sit on the right passenger side to overlook the sea.
During our scenic drive, our guide Rosario provided so much historical information along the way and pointed out the most amazing views while providing interesting stories and anecdotes regarding each of the different villages.
One of our first stops was what I’ve been waiting to experience, the beautiful Positano also known as “the Jewel of the Amalfi Coast.”
Positano’s rainbow cliff-side houses merging into the clear blue sea was simply stunning.
After the breathtaking view, we made our way into the town of Positano where you immediately see everything in bright yellow to highlight their famous limoncello goods.
We had some time to roam around this charming little town. Immediately you are greeted with beautifully crafted linens, limoncello, and hand crafted leather shoes and sandals. Positano’s fashion is famous for its light linen. The town is also known for its handmade ceramics.
If you have enough time, you can have handcrafted sandals custom made just for you. Mmm…Italian leather!
There is a lot to explore in Positano with its steeped stairs adorned with lovely boutiques and souvenirs. Be sure to make your way down to the beach for a different view of this colorful town.
A massive, colorful beauty ain’t it?
Steep stairs with rainbow cliff-side houses, pebbled beaches, vibrant beach umbrellas, and sun lounges. I am in love with Positano. I could spend hours dreaming away on the beach…but on to the next town, Ravello!
We were greeted by Ravello’s lovely, quaint atmosphere filled with fragrant hilltop gardens and spectacular views.
Ravello’s more polished and refined ambience creates a quieter pace for tourists to explore its panoramic hilltop gardens.
This enchanting village has vineyards and gardens to explore up in the hills and the Duomo di Ravello to check out in the center square.
We were hungry and ready to eat so we returned to our meeting spot with this spectacular view at the Garden restaurant. Rosario had two recommendations for lunch, a delicious seafood lunch in Amalfi or a lunch with great views in Ravello. Unfortunately the seafood restaurant was closed that day so we opted for a lunch with a great view per Rosario’s recommendation and it truly didn’t disappoint.
When in Italy, you need to do seafood and pasta like true Italians. We ordered a lobster and shrimp pasta dish (19 euros) and a fresh seafood salad (12 euros) both topped with their specialties, lemon and olive oil. The lightly seasoned flavors was paired perfectly with the beautiful day. The lobster tail was surprisingly tender!
Incredible lunch view!
Overall, a solid lunch with a priceless view! You come here for the view, as I am sure there is higher quality seafood elsewhere. Be prepared for a longer lunch as they like to take their time with service, but with this view I don’t mind at all. Prices were fairly reasonable. Be sure to get seated by the balcony for a view! (Rosario can request for you in advance).
We made our way to our last stop, Amalfi. It is the largest city on the coast complete with the town’s towering duomo.
Amalfi was bustling with souvenir shops, restaurants, and more, all in a little town plaza. Still a great and lively ambience but possibly the most touristy out of all the towns. If I were you, I’d stay a little longer in Positano or Ravello to enjoy its picturesque views and boutique shops.
Be sure to enjoy a delicious gelato by the beach and soak up the sun!
